একদিন দুইটি ইঁদুর একটি রুটির টুকরো পেল। তারা দুজনেই সেটি খেতে চাইল, কিন্তু কীভাবে সমানভাবে ভাগ করবে তা নিয়ে ঝগড়া শুরু করল। কেউ কাউকে বিশ্বাস করতে পারছিল না। অবশেষে তারা সমস্যার সমাধানের জন্য একটি বানরের কাছে গেল। বানরটি একটি দাঁড়িপাল্লা এনে রুটিটিকে দুই টুকরো করল। সে দুই পাশে রুটি রাখল। এক পাশ একটু ভারী হয়ে গেল। তখন বানরটি ভারী দিক থেকে একটু কামড় দিয়ে খেল। এবার অন্য পাশ ভারী হয়ে গেল, তাই সেখান থেকেও সে একটু খেল। এভাবে বানরটি বারবার দুই দিক থেকেই খেতে লাগল। শেষে রুটির প্রায় সবটাই বানর খেয়ে ফেলল। দুই ইঁদুর তখন খুব দুঃখ পেল এবং বুঝতে পারল যে ঝগড়া করে তারা ভুল করেছে।
নীতিকথা: ঝগড়া করলে তৃতীয় ব্যক্তি সুযোগ নেয়।
